Solidarity with Cuba from the Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust

Harare, December 13 - The Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Trust (ZAST) expressed support for Cuba and today urged the world to denounce actions against International Law and regional stability in response to the act of piracy by the United States against an oil tanker in the Caribbean Sea waters.

The non-governmental organization ZAST expresses its firm solidarity with the people and Government of Cuba, following reports from the island's Foreign Ministry about Washington's military operation against the Venezuelan vessel on December 10.

This action, described as an act of piracy and a violation of international maritime law, is part of a broader strategy aimed at obstructing Venezuela's sovereign right to trade its natural resources and intensifying the economic pressure imposed on Cuba.

Such measures have deepened the impact of the long-standing blockade on the national energy system and the daily lives of Cubans.

As a nation that has suffered the devastating effects of unilateral coercive measures, Zimbabwe stands in solidarity with Havana and Caracas, rejecting the use of economic strangulation, extraterritorial coercion, or military intimidation as tools in international relations.

We reiterate – the statement indicates – that the sovereignty of nations, large or small, must be respected and that the Caribbean and Latin America's commitment to peace, expressed in the declaration of the region as a Zone of Peace, must be defended.

ZAST calls on the International Community, multilateral institutions, and progressive movements around the world to denounce all actions that undermine International Law, threaten regional stability, or violate the right of nations to trade peacefully.

We also reaffirm our commitment to global cooperation against sanctions that inflict collective suffering and erode the foundations of legitimate multilateral interaction.

Zimbabwe's friendship with Cuba is historic, principled, and unbreakable. At this moment of increased pressure, we stand in solidarity with its people in the struggle for dignity, development, and sovereignty, the declaration concludes.
