Precautionary measures are being taken in Guáimaro as Tropical Storm Melissa approaches.

"The effort we're making is to save human lives first and foremost, and the economy," emphasized Walter Simón Noris, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Camagüey, during a meeting this Friday afternoon with key local authorities and leaders regarding the supervision of the municipality's actions to confront Tropical Storm Melissa.

Simón Noris emphasized the importance of timely information from the media, amateur radio operators, and alternative means to ensure public awareness and monitoring of the meteorological phenomenon.

At the meeting, Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia, governor of the province, outlined the measures in the area, emphasizing the protection of pregnant women at risk, seriously ill people, and people living in residential homes with construction problems.

He highlighted the priorities of stockpiling root vegetables, produce, and grains; protecting homes; producing bread; and ensuring food, firewood for cooking, water, and healthcare in the six evacuation centers across the territory.

The plans also included the gradual provision of fuel to people with power plants.

The leaders warned about the dangers of bathing in swollen dams, rivers, and reservoirs; in this regard, they urged young people and their families to be alerted.

They also called on the population to maintain revolutionary vigilance and stay informed through official sources and channels, such as the websites and social media profiles of the Meteorological Institute of the Republic of Cuba and Civil Defense.
