Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been key to human growth and social development, with a significant impact on education, health, the economy, and other spheres; however, it is also important to recognize their limitations.
Although they were introduced to improve our quality of life, their excessive use often leads to isolation. Today, it's common to see families, friends, and couples physically close together yet distant, each absorbed in their phone without looking or speaking to the person next to them.
Sometimes we arrive at a workplace and the person supposed to help us is engrossed in their cell phone, oblivious to the rules of courtesy and work duties. This interpersonal disconnect can weaken the bonds essential to emotional and social well-being.
ICTs should bring us together, not separate us; using them with awareness and balance will allow them to remain useful tools without losing their most valuable asset: human connection.
