Sosa Dance: a project that transforms lives (+Photos)

Guáimaro, December 24 - In the heart of the Martí popular council, in the municipality of Guáimaro, the Sosa Dance project is a space of inspiration and discipline where children from informal streets come together with students from high school and Technical Professional Education.

They find in dance a path to creativity. Behind every choreography, Leonardo Hernández Sosa, a Geography teacher at José Martí middle school and an eternal dance enthusiast, combines academic rigor and artistic sensitivity.

For Leonardo, the school-family partnership is very important, a strength achieved with parents as the pillars of their children's education. Through Sosa Dance, he instills values such as commitment and responsibility in the students, which can be seen in their academic results.

The project, which started two years ago, will be celebrating its anniversary on the upcoming January 8th. Initially, there were seven members, but thanks to the talent, clear vision, and the desire of the teacher to make it happen, the group gains members every day and now demonstrates the collaboration among the local schools.

At five in the afternoon, the teacher begins his second task, not in the classroom but in the community's Television Room. There, the artists await to start a new rehearsal that becomes a life lesson.

Hernández Sosa has the ability to motivate, guide, discover talents, and provide a safe environment where children, adolescents, and young people grow with a love for culture and all things Cuban, honoring the name they chose themselves: "Sosa," in reference to the educator’s maternal surname; and "Dance," in homage to dance.
