Guáimaro, December 30 - In the last days of December, Guáimaro is experiencing an improvement in mobile data Internet connection, following the installation of 4G technology at the radio bases in the municipal seat and in the town of Cascorro.
This action is part of the investment plan of the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA) in the territory, as a result of measures implemented during the current year that have allowed the collection of foreign currency to enhance infrastructure.
Engineer Henry Hechavarría Rojas, head of the Guáimaro Main Telephone Center, states that the technological upgrade benefits a significant number of mobile network users from areas such as the Progreso and San Juan neighborhoods, the area surrounding the “Armando E. Cardoso” hospital, and Las Ánimas, in the Cradle of the Constitution; as well as the residents of Cascorro, who now enjoy connectivity superior to that available before.

Although the progress has a great social impact, Hechavarría Rojas explains that the exponential increase in subscribers leads to a higher demand for navigation speed, and the current conditions are still insufficient to guarantee the desired quality of connection in terms of speed and fluidity.
Despite the limitations, the executive mentions the willingness to continue expanding capabilities to offer better service to the population of Guáimaro.
“We have experienced delays because one of the main issues affecting us is the energy contingency, in addition to the breakdown of the generator sets. We are working with very outdated technology,” he comments.
Once the installation of 4G at the Martí popular council radio base is completed—which must be carried out as soon as possible—the easternmost municipality of Camagüey will have this service available along the Central Highway, from the border with Las Tunas province to the exit to Sibanicú.
