With a brace from Brazilian Raphael Dias "Raphinha," Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-2 today to retain the Spanish Super Cup title.
Raphinha took advantage of a passing error by his compatriot Rodrygo Silva to break the deadlock in the superclásico with his first goal at the 36th minute, at the Alinma Stadium.
Three goals in injury time — from Brazilian Vinícius Júnior (45+2) and Gonzalo García (45+7) for Real Madrid, and from Polish Robert Lewandowski (45+4) for Barcelona — sent the match tied 2-2 at halftime.
In the second half, Raphinha fired a shot from the edge of the box that deflected off Raúl Asencio, changing the ball’s trajectory and beating Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois (minute 73).
In stoppage time (minute 95), Álvaro Carreras missed a clear opportunity to send the match to a penalty shootout.
The Catalan team won the Spanish Super Cup for the sixteenth time, a record for the competition, and it was the fourth title for German coach Hansi Flick.
Flick has won all his finals as a coach, eight in total with Bayern Munich and Barcelona, while Xabi Alonso was left without his first trophy at the helm of the Merengue club.
Additionally, it also equalized the personal tally of titles won in Saudi Arabia, where editions have been held since 2020 except in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, with three for Barcelona (2023, 2025, and 2026) and three for Real Madrid (2020, 2022, and 2024).
This was also the third final in the Arab nation where the Barcelona side defeated their Spanish archrival.
