The province of Holguín is scheduled to host five high-level events this year, 2026, according to the Cuban sports calendar for the next 12 months.
Osmani González Infante, Head of the Sports Organization and Programming Department in the territory, reported that from February 1 to 7, the final of the National Boxing Series will take place at the Fernando de Dios Buñuel Covered Hall.
This event will feature participants from Holguín as well as Camagüey, Pinar del Río, Matanzas, and Guantánamo. On Saturday, January 10, the holder of the final spot in the tournament will be decided in a match between Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos.
Additionally, boxing might have activity again in Holguín during May if the province is granted the hosting rights for the National Championships: from May 4 to 10 for women and from May 10 to 17 for men’s Playa Girón.
In March, Holguín will host the second phase of the men's handball qualifier, which will take place from the 12th to the 20th, and the Eastern Region Judo Zonal for people with disabilities, organized by Cuba’s National Associations of the Blind and Deaf, from the 7th to the 14th.
During April, the best wrestlers from eastern Cuba will compete in the National Regional Championship, held from the 1st to the 9th in all three wrestling styles. Furthermore, from June 4 to 7, the final of the main mixed Baseball 5 event will be held in the province.
Other notable events in the 2026 sports calendar include the Apertura Tournament of the 109th National Football League, starting on February 4; the 5th Elite League of Cuban Baseball, beginning on March 3; and the 65th National Series with its qualifying stage starting on September 1.
