Mayabeque, Cuba: "I feel very happy on this day; everything I gave in my sports career was nothing more than my formation as a young Cuban. I learned that the homeland and principles should not be betrayed, which is why I defend Cuba and the Revolution. In this meeting, I confirm how important we are to the people and the main leaders of the province. You can always count on me," summarized Madelaine de Armas Núñez, multiple champion in national and international Table Tennis events, known as "The Golden Lefty" in that sport.
This was highlighted during the meeting with sports legends and the main authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Government in Mayabeque.
Maribel Durruty, another luminary of sports in Cuba's youngest province, reaffirmed her colleague's words and urged INDER officials to leverage their experiences to share them with new generations. "It's not enough just to invite us to events and recognitions; that's important, but we must reach out more frequently to the Sports Initiation School, the Physical Education teacher training program, and student centers in general."
Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of INDER, who was invited to the exchange, acknowledged the province's progress in caring for sports legends while proposing a comprehensive plan within the working system of the sports organization.
"Mayabeque can contribute a lot with its experiences to the rest of the country. This group, which includes 37 legends of Cuban sports, has a lot of pride, simplicity, and willingness to act; we need to take advantage of that. New generations must learn from this knowledge," concluded the sports leader.
Edelso Antonio Ramos Linares, president of the Provincial Defense Council, in his closing remarks, expressed his honor in attending the exchange. He emphasized the importance of maintaining it systematically and integrating sports legends into every INDER activity.
"Municipalities must design a strategy to attend to you and, from the province, enhance what we have done so far. You are examples of will and sacrifice. You contributed a lot to this country; it is us who are always in debt to you," Ramos Linares concluded.
Members of the Huracanes de Mayabeque team, participating in the 64th National Baseball Series with excellent performance so far, also attended the exchange.
