Man assaults US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during public event

Washington, Jan. 28 - United States Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a member of the House of Representatives from Minnesota, was attacked today by a man who sprayed an unknown liquid on her at a public event in Minneapolis.

Omar was calling in her speech for the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and the removal of the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Kristi Noem, when she was attacked by an individual who was sitting in the front row and lunged at her while brandishing a syringe and shouting.

The Democratic representative, who has been the target of President Donald Trump's attacks, vowed not to be intimidated and refused to leave the event immediately to be examined.

The man was immediately arrested and booked at the Hennepin County Jail for third-degree assault, according to the Minneapolis Police Department, which reported to CBS News. Omar was not injured.

The congresswoman refused to suspend her presentation: “We will continue. These damn fools won’t get away with this!” she said.

She then emphasized, “This is the reality that people like this despicable man don’t understand: we are strong in Minnesota and we will stand firm against anything thrown.
