India Interested in Reactivating Bilateral Mechanism with Venezuela

New Delhi, Nov. 15 - Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal advocated today for reactivating the India-Venezuela Joint Committee Mechanism, whose last meeting took place a decade ago, authorities reported here today.

In a meeting with Venezuelan Minister of Ecological Mining Development, Héctor Silva, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Goyal noted that ongoing operations by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation in Venezuela offer the possibility of deeper collaboration in mining and exploration, according to the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The Indian minister suggested that Venezuela could consider adopting the Indian Pharmacopoeia to facilitate pharmaceutical trade and highlighted opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the automotive sector.

He added that India would reach out to companies exploring investment opportunities in Venezuela.

During the meeting, the Venezuelan delegation expressed its interest in expanding economic cooperation with India beyond the oil sector, including critical minerals and attracting investments from the South Asian nation, Indian authorities noted.
