The Moncada Program, drafted by Fidel Castro in 1953, is a historical document that marked the beginning of the Revolution; it contained a series of social, economic, and political demands aimed at profoundly transforming the country, with an emphasis on social justice, education, and public health.
Currently, in the province of Camagüey, one of Cuba's most populated territories, the legacy of said document serves as a guide for local development and the well-being of its inhabitants. More than seven decades after its creation, many of the aspirations expressed within it remain a priority on the governmental and social agenda.
The "agramontino" province has managed to maintain a high educational level, following the principle of universal and free access to education, as outlined in the program written by Fidel. Schools in the region possess resources and programs aimed at fostering culture, history, and revolutionary values, with an emphasis on the comprehensive development of children and youth.
For its part, the healthcare system in Camagüey reflects the commitment to one of the fundamental pillars of the Program: medical care for all. Clinics and hospitals offer free and accessible services, alongside the development of prevention and health promotion campaigns that reach both urban and rural areas.
In line with the document's objectives, this central region works toward diversifying its economy, relying on sectors such as agriculture, livestock, and cultural tourism. Toward this goal, community projects and cooperatives are promoted to improve the quality of life for families and to foster popular participation and local autonomy.
The spirit of social justice and the fight against inequality that Fidel embodied in his writings are visible in social projects that benefit the territory's most vulnerable sectors, where solidarity and mutual support remain essential values.
The central province emphasizes citizen participation in political and mass organizations, ensuring that decisions made reflect the real needs of the community. This dynamic allows for the efficient implementation of actions and the consolidation of an environment of cooperation and commitment.
As a worthy heir to the legacy of the Moncada Program, Camagüey constitutes a palpable example of the fulfillment and continued relevance of this document, demonstrating that the ideals expressed by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro continue to inspire the present and the future of both the province and the nation.
