The program of the 1st International Colloquium Fidel: Legacy and Future will include a symposium on the Cuban Revolution and other sectoral forums.
One hundred years after his birth, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz remains a beacon of anti-colonial thought, resistance, and the struggle for a more just world. His legacy challenges us in the present and illuminates the paths of the future.
Precisely on the occasion of the Centenary, the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, together with Cuban academic and cultural institutions, has convened the 1st International Colloquium Fidel: Legacy and Future, to be held at the Havana Convention Palace from August 10 to 13, 2026.
Historians, political scientists, researchers, social leaders, and friends of the Cuban Revolution will be able to participate in this space for critical and plural debate on the contributions of the Commander-in-Chief to contemporary thought.
Sissi Abay Díaz, deputy director of the Center, stated at a press conference that the event proposes to analyze the actions of the historical Leader in the political, social, internationalist, and humanist dimensions; to debate his influence on the geopolitics of the 20th and 21st centuries; to reflect on the relevance of his ideas in the fight against imperialism, inequalities, climate change, and for the peace and sovereignty of peoples; as well as to explore the reception and projection of his legacy in culture.
This event will serve as a forum where historical memory dialogues with contemporary challenges and the aspirations of the new generations. "Among the forms of participation, keynote lectures, thematic roundtables, panels, presentations of books and documentaries, or related cultural projects stand out," added Abay Díaz.
The debates and conclusions will be compiled into a publication so that the ideas germinated at this event nourish the struggle for the "better future" to which Fidel dedicated his life.
