Trump talks about diplomacy with Iran while having an aircraft carrier deployed

Washington, Feb 12.- Although the President of the United States, Donald Trump, deployed a fleet near Iran with the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln at the forefront, he assured today that he will continue to promote a diplomatic solution with the Islamic Republic.

Trump made the statements after meeting behind closed doors at the White House with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, who arrived in Washington yesterday for the meeting in which he brought Iran onto the agenda.

According to the Republican leader, the meeting, which lasted about three hours, was "very positive."

"Nothing definitive was reached, except that I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue to see if an agreement can be finalized," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

President Trump added that if a deal is achieved, that will be his preferred option; otherwise, "we will simply have to see what the outcome is," he noted, recalling that last June Iran—according to his judgment—did not make progress on an agreement, and the United States responded with the so-called 'Midnight Hammer Operation.'

Through military action, Trump bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities. "Let's hope this time they are more reasonable and responsible," he said.

Netanyahu's office reported that both leaders, in addition to discussing negotiations with Iran, addressed the situation in Gaza and other regional events.

This is Netanyahu's seventh official visit to Washington since the start of Trump's second term on January 20, 2025.

Prior to his talks with Trump, the Israeli Prime Minister signed on Wednesday his accession to the Peace Board created by his host, which according to reports will be officially inaugurated on February 19 in this capital.

Netanyahu signed the document during a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Blair House, the official residence where he stayed.

The United States sent out invitations for the event, which will take place at the Peace Institute that Trump renamed after himself.
