The province of Camagüey will begin vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) on October 27, a campaign that will extend until January 31, 2026.
This action is part of the incorporation of a new immunogen into the National School Immunization Program.
According to Taimi Miranda Vergara, the person in charge of the Vaccination Program in the province, the strategy will mobilize specialists from the health and education sectors.
Vaccinations will take place in primary schools, special education centers, and designated vaccination sites.
Miranda Vergara emphasized that this inoculation responds to the proven link between persistent HPV infection and cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide.
In the first phase, the program aims to immunize more than three thousand nine-year-old girls.
The specialist clarified that those minors who do not receive the dose during the campaign at school centers can go to their local polyclinic to receive it later.
This same option is available for girls who turn nine in the remaining months of the year.
