In response to Hurricane Melissa, ETECSA Camagüey implements actions

The Territorial Division of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA) in Camagüey is on alert due to the imminent arrival of Hurricane Melissa, which is expected to cross the eastern region as a high-intensity phenomenon between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. In order to mitigate the effects of heavy rains and winds, the company has implemented a series of preventive measures.

Mailen Durán Rodríguez, head of the Marketing Group at ETECSA in Camagüey, explained that tree trimming operations are being carried out in all territories to protect the telephone lines. Additionally, fuel supply for generators is being ensured to maintain communication continuity.

Alternatives have also been prepared to maintain services in case of power outages or interruptions in mobile phone service caused by the winds. Measures have been taken to secure protection centers, and special attention is being paid to cable tunnels to prevent water ingress that could cause service interruptions. All vulnerable outdoor equipment is also being safeguarded.

Durán Rodríguez emphasized that the teams of linemen, repairers, and all necessary technical personnel are organized and ready to act in response to any eventuality, whether in the province of Camagüey or in other affected regions. As for the commercial network, it will continue operating as long as conditions permit, while efforts are being made to prepare the facilities to ensure the safety of the equipment.

To keep the public informed, communications through social media, local media, and other channels have been intensified, providing details on how to stay in contact with ETECSA in case of emergencies.

Among the recommendations for citizens, Durán Rodríguez suggested keeping telecommunications equipment away from water, including phones, modems, and other devices, as well as protecting them from strong winds and electrical discharges. It is also advisable to fully charge mobile devices and minimize their use to extend battery life, as well as educate the entire family on how to report outages in both telecommunications networks and their homes.

Finally, the director emphasized the importance of following the instructions from media outlets and publications from ETECSA's institutional accounts to stay informed about the situation and recommended safety measures.
