Camagüey.— The XXXIV Edition of the Provincial Music Festival, to be held in Camagüey on April 24 and 25, reaffirms the value of the amateur artist movement as an essential breeding ground for cultural talent in the province.
It constitutes a platform where community-born creations find space to showcase themselves, grow, and engage with diverse audiences, thereby strengthening identity and cultural participation.
Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Rumbatá group and the 20th anniversary of the Golpe a Golpe socio-cultural project, the event recognizes not only established artistic trajectories but also the impact of sustained work within the community.
As a prelude, on April 23 at 10:00 a.m., the “Estrechando Espacios” (Closing Spaces) event will take place at the La Comarca literary café, featuring Wilmer Ferrán, leader of Rumbatá. This initiative seeks to foster exchange between cultural figures and the youth audience, reinforcing the role of mentors in training new generations.
The program will begin on the afternoon of the 24th with a professional development segment at the Santa Cecilia Convention Center, centered on a didactic-practical mixed choral workshop led by Lídice Montes Negrín, director of the Professional Choir of Camagüey. This space addresses the need to strengthen training processes within the amateur movement, especially in the choral field.
Methodologist Maribel Sixto Enamorado emphasized that the focus on choral work within the development segment responds to the need to revitalize these practices and strengthen the training of art instructors. “As important as the event itself is the learning process,” she expressed, highlighting the role of music as a tool for human growth.
In the evening, starting at 8:00 p.m., the Plaza de los Trabajadores will host performances by artistic units from the movement, alongside performances by Golpe a Golpe and Rumbatá.
Activities will continue on the 25th with a presentation at the Manuel Ramón Silva nursing home in the morning. In the afternoon, starting at 4:00 p.m., the awards ceremony and closing gala will take place at the Plaza de los Trabajadores.
Due to current economic conditions, the competition will be evaluated virtually. 75 audiovisual materials from artistic units were received, of which 55 were selected, although only 28 can be viewed in person during the final gala, including invited proposals.
This presentation integrates different formats, from soloists to choirs and small ensembles. According to methodologist Dailien Varona Coca, the municipalities with the highest participation were Florida, Minas, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Sibanicú, and Camagüey.
The director of the Provincial Center of Houses of Culture, Aideli Martín Gutiérrez, highlighted that each performance will be “a tribute to the tradition and innovation that has characterized our people,” while underlining the work of the province's 30 houses of culture, which maintain active programming through creative workshops and community actions. Despite limitations, she noted, these spaces have facilitated greater family involvement in cultural life.
