Camagüey, January 5th — With flags of solidarity, outstanding young people from various sectors of society reenacted, as they did 67 years ago, the triumphant entrance of the Caravan of Freedom into the city.
Revolutionary and rebellious, the new generations alluded to the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in the Plaza de la Libertad, the very place where on January 4th, 1959, he spoke for the first time to the people of Camagüey.
With the presence of the highest political and governmental authorities of Camagüey, the event included members of mass and student organizations, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, a representation of the people of Camagüey, as well as the protagonists of the Caravan of Freedom and combatants of the Rebel Army from the different fronts located in the province: Luis Portales Milanés, Wilfredo Pérez Rodríguez, and Ramiro Rodríguez González.

Laura Marian Bacallao Padrón, leader of the Agramontina alma mater, and Lester Marrero Molina, rector of the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey, spoke about being faithful to history and the homeland, while categorically reiterating Cuba's absolute support and solidarity with the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its government.
Yurisney Gil Monteagudo, first secretary of the Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas (Union of Young Communists) of Cuba in the province, awarded several young people the Siempre Joven (Forever Young) distinction granted by the National Bureau of the organization for their contributions to the country's economic and social development, including four workers from the Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company who participated in recovery efforts in the eastern region of the country.

Gil Monteagudo highlighted the pride that it represents for the new generations of Agramontinos to once again commemorate the entry of the Freedom Caravan just as we are approaching the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, a commitment within the current socioeconomic context.
