The completion of two photovoltaic parks and their synchronization with the National Electric System (SEN), one in the municipality of Consolación del Sur and the other in Pinar del Río, with a potential energy generation capacity of 421.8 MW respectively.
The incorporation of these, along with eight others that already existed and together provide 18 MW, plus the one located in the La Ceniza community, also in the capital city, with a capacity of five MW and donated by China, equips the province with a solar energy generation capacity of 65 MW.
The investments made, as well as others planned for this year, are part of the country’s strategy to reduce dependence on electricity generated by fossil fuels and to have a matrix that is more environmentally friendly.
Pablo Pérez San Jorge, director of the Electric Company of Pinar del Río, stated that “the generation we have during daytime hours is practically the one that comes from the parks.”

Another one is already in the final phase in the Puerta de Golpe popular council (21.8 MW), also in Consolación del Sur, with its synchronization expected by the end of January.
The official emphasized that the teams from the various entities responsible for construction and installation have gained experience, which guarantees the commissioning of the project. This has been acknowledged on several occasions by the political and administrative authorities of the region.
In 2026, the construction of a similar park is also planned in the western municipality of Sandino.

In the province, the contribution of the Tabacuba Business Group to the energy matrix transformation is significant; more than 500 hectares (ha) are equipped with irrigation supported by photovoltaic panels, and 226 systems are installed in warehouses, sorting facilities, depulpers, and factories, while half a thousand farmers have these systems in their homes.
