Russia: Pinocchio raised more than three million dollars in its premiere

Moscow, January 5th—The movie Buratino (Pinocchio), released at the beginning of this year, was a box office success, grossing more than 226.6 million rubles (about three million dollars) in the first 24 hours, reported the channel Ura.ru on Sunday.

The report, based on data from the Federal Unified Automated Information System for Film Screenings in Russia, also states that ticket sales for various dates reached nearly six million dollars.

Meanwhile, cinemas are already increasing the number of screenings due to high demand, and tickets have sold out quickly.

The film, directed by Igor Voloshin, offers a modern version of Alexei Tolstoi’s fairy tale "The Golden Key or the Adventures of Buratino." Viewers will follow the adventure of a wooden boy who struggles to earn the respect and love of Papa Carlo.

The premiere coincided with an important date for history enthusiasts: exactly 50 years ago, in January 1976, the cult Soviet TV film The Adventures of Buratino was released. The creators of the new movie deliberately maintained a connection with the classics by inviting the composer Alexei Rybnikov.

The People's Artist composed the music for Buratino once again, and the film features recognizable melodies familiar to several generations of viewers. The cast included Vitalia Kornienko, Alexander Yatsenko, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Victoria Isakova, Alexander Petrov, Anastasia Talyzina, and other stars.

In December, Russia’s Minister of Culture Olga Liubimova attended the premiere of the new cinematic adaptation of Buratino at the Oktyabr cinema in Moscow.
