Madrid, Dec. - The 40th edition of the Goya Awards, which will take place next February 28 in Barcelona, begins to generate enthusiasm today within the Spanish Film Academy.
One of the main protagonists of the Goya gala will be Gonzalo Suárez, who will visit the Academy’s headquarters in Madrid a few weeks before receiving the highest distinction in Spanish cinema, the Honorary Goya.
The author of Ditirambo, Morbo, Parranda, Epílogo, Remando al viento, and La reina anónima will hold a conversation with Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, the actress who he succeeds in receiving this recognition.
During January, the top institution of the seventh art in Spain will dedicate a large part of its programming to the films nominated for the Goyas.
Then, once the jury makes the final cut, the five titles nominated for Best Animated Film and the five contenders for Best New Director will be shown in their screening room. Before that, the feature films nominated for Best European Film will be reviewed.
Additionally, the institution will screen the premieres of The Chronology of Water, Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, which explores the life of writer Lidia Yuknavitch, followed by a discussion between Gloria Fortún and Julia de Castro.
Also, La fiera, the new work by Salvador Calvo, who will hold a meeting with the public accompanied by Carlos Cuevas, Miguel Bernardeau, Miguel Á. Silvestre, and Fernando Bovaira.
Of special interest will be Aída y vuelta, a film based on the successful series directed by Paco León, who will attend the Academy along with part of the team behind his new project as a filmmaker. The film will premiere in the United States in February.
Meanwhile, writer Arturo González-Campos will present his new book Cinema with More Things before the screening of Historias de la radio, the classic directed by José Luis Sáenz de Heredia.
