Tokyo, February 11 - The intense snowfalls that Japan has been experiencing for three weeks have caused 46 deaths and more than 550 injuries so far, reported today the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
According to experts, the Asian nation is going through one of the worst snow waves in recent years.
The snowfalls have paralyzed roads, blocked access points, and turned daily routines into a constant challenge.
On the coast of the Sea of Japan, traffic is severely affected, while in towns like Aomori, residents face more than a meter of accumulated snow.
Local authorities indicate that many of the fatal accidents occurred when large masses of snow fell from roofs or when residents fell while trying to clear streets and homes.
According to the Meteorological Agency, conditions will remain difficult, forcing communities to endure a particularly harsh winter.
