Arbovirosis: prevent to overcome

Arbovirosis: prevent to overcome

Nov, 2025.- Do you know what consequences the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito can have?

This tiny vector may seem harmless, but it is actually one of the greatest enemies of public health, capable of transmitting diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, which cause fever, intense pain, and, in some cases, serious complications.

Linnet Moreno Palomares, an epidemiologist from Guaimar, explains that these are not just passing discomforts, but illnesses resulting from a complex epidemiological situation facing the easternmost municipality of Camagüey province.

We often talk about the symptoms and how, in recent years, we've been living with various highly transmissible viruses; therefore, when chikungunya strikes, the body is more vulnerable.

In this regard, we mustn't confuse the symptoms because each disease requires different attention. The message is clear: see a doctor.

As part of the strategy adopted in the region for assisting cases with nonspecific febrile symptoms, pregnant women, children under two years of age, and patients who come to the hospital with warning signs are given priority for the Immunoglobulin M test, known as the IgM test, to detect antibodies that appear when an infection is present.

Regarding arboviruses, there is one aspect we must keep in mind: hygiene in the home. If we all contribute to eliminating stagnant water and mosquito breeding grounds, we take a firm step in this battle against the vector and for the health of our families. (Image taken from the Internet)
