Guáimaro: After Melissa's passage, take extra precautions

With the purpose of assessing the impact of Hurricane Melissa in Guáimaro, representatives of the Provincial Defense Council toured the territory this Wednesday.

The delegation included Roberto Conde Silveiro, head of the Political and Ideological Working Group of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Camagüey; Yennys León Mayedo, head of the Commission for the Protection of the Population and vice-governor; as well as Luis García López, coordinator of the Economic programs in the Government.

At the evacuation center located in the Rafael Morales primary school, they confirmed the care provided to 32 people from Guaimara who are waiting there for the weather conditions to improve so they can return to their homes.

Count Silveiro spoke with the evacuees about the need to remain at the center until the recovery phase is declared.

In the dining room of the Family Care System (SAF), social worker Yiseliet Domínguez explained that the food for the elderly is guaranteed during days of weather-related disruptions, while also highlighting that they maintain the messaging service to facilitate the service to the grandparents.

“Persuade and act” were the words Yennys León Mayedo emphasized when addressing the public. In her remarks, the vice-governor stressed the importance of taking extra precautions for the most vulnerable groups: children, the elderly, and pregnant women.

The visit also included a stop at the Maternity Home, where the leaders spoke with medical staff and pregnant women about the conditions of the center and the protection measures after the hurricane.

Seventy-five families, totaling 147 people, remain in the municipality's evacuation centers. They will return to their homes once the situation returns to normal.
