Nov, 2025.- Brothers Camilo and Yosvani Betancourt Rodríguez have found a new destiny in the land. After years of building walls and carrying bricks, they left construction behind to dedicate themselves, for more than two years now, to the furrow and the seed.

These hardworking men from Guaimaro wake up every morning with the certainty that health and willpower are enough to face the sun and fatigue, to clear paths through the weeds and expand the cultivated areas. In those moist and fertile soils, where healthy and generous food sprouts, they discover that discipline, responsibility, and a sense of belonging are the true magic that turns effort into productivity, and sacrifice into hope.

Camilo, who for almost thirty years drove the solid waste tractor to the landfill, changed course without losing the pulse of duty. Now, when resources allow, he climbs onto the urban farm vehicle and once again feels that his work sustains life, that every opened furrow is a fulfilled commitment to local agriculture.

In 2024, Justo Fermín Leiva Caso joined this task, a man seasoned by hard work. He was an agricultural machinery operator at La Loma del Corojo and at the “Cuatro de Abril” Basic Production Cooperative Unit (UBPC), and later, for over 20 years, a specialist in asphalt application with the Road Maintenance brigade. Today, alongside Camilo, Yosvani, Rafael Arcángel, and Yuniober, he once again puts his hands at the service of the land with the same strength and dedication that have accompanied him throughout his life.
The times are difficult, but these five agricultural workers are even stronger. They embody the teaching of the Apostle of the Republic of Cuba, José Martí: “If man serves, the land serves.” (Photo taken from Facebook)
