Havana, Nov 11.- With delegates from more than 15 countries, the XI International Convention on Physical Activity and Sport (Afide 2025) is inaugurated today at the Palace of Conventions in this capital, under the motto “Science to Overcome.”
From the early hours of the morning, the venue will resonate with the murmur of voices, diverse accents, and shared hopes. Outside, flags will flutter in the cool November air, while inside the venue, the hallways will be filled with academic enthusiasm and athletic fervor. This is not just another gathering: it is the heart of Cuban sports beating.
The president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (Inder), Osvaldo Vento Montiller, will open the sessions with the conference “Cuban Sports System: Conquest of the Revolution,” a tribute to the legacy of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, who promoted a sports model that has turned the island into a reference for talent, science, and humanity.
With China as the guest of honor, Afide 2025 invites scientists, coaches, doctors, and educators to share experiences on artificial intelligence, biotechnology, sports medicine, and physical education.
More than 160 foreign speakers—from Mexico, Austria, Peru, Serbia, Spain, Hungary, Venezuela, Equatorial Guinea, and other countries—have confirmed their participation in over 300 scientific works that will be presented throughout the week.
In parallel, symposia and workshops dedicated to therapeutic physical culture, baseball, soccer, sports management, and performance psychology will also take place.
The International Congress on Sports Medicine, the Educational Chess Congress, and the Global Forum on Science and Research will also occur, where ideas converge that promise to transform the way training, competition, and education through movement are approached.
Afide is not just an academic event: it is a celebration of body and mind, a testament to human capacity to overcome through science and solidarity.
For five days, Havana will become a great laboratory of effort and hope, where Cuban sports once again shows the world its commitment to excellence, its spirit of resilience, and its dedication to life.
