Renovation of facilities advances for JCC Santo Domingo 2026

Santo Domingo, March 5th.- Fourteen trucks carrying prefabricated synthetic material arrived in the Dominican Republic for the installation of two new tracks at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, as part of the refurbishment works of the complex, it was reported today.

Architect Jesús Requena, from the company AST Sports, responsible for the installation of the material, informed that the shipment was dispatched from Europe by the company Mondo, based in Italy.

The arrival of the synthetic material will allow progress as soon as the Ministry of Housing completes the civil works and formally hands over the spaces to the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games (CACG) Santo Domingo 2026.

Both the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium and the adjacent track are undergoing a comprehensive remodeling process. Both surfaces will have the same length and quality standards.

The Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium is located at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the country’s main sports complex.

Once the works are completed, the tracks will be certified as category one, which will allow the hosting of any international event, including a World Athletics Championship.

The application of the synthetic material on both areas is expected to begin in May.

The opening ceremony of the CACG Santo Domingo 2026 is scheduled for July 24th at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium.

The Mondo brand is a world reference in sports surfaces. Its tracks have been used in the Olympic Games, Pan American championships, and other high-level competitions.

The material is made of vulcanized rubber, which guarantees high performance, athlete safety, and sustainability.

In addition to surfaces, the company produces specialized equipment such as hurdles, starting blocks, relay batons, timing systems, mats, poles, hammers, cages, and javelins, among other athletic implements.
