Camagüey, Dec. 5 – Camagüey commemorates Builder's Day, a date that honors the dedication and commitment of those who have been essential in the development of the province and the country. This celebration, established in 1972 by Fidel Castro in honor of Armando Mestre Martínez, highlights the importance of this field as a driver of social and economic progress in Cuba.
During the day, the work of plumbers, hydraulics specialists, bricklayers, retirees, and those working in the non-state sector was emphasized. Their efforts have been fundamental in carrying out the main investments in the province, transforming communities and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.
The role of young people in the sector is another highlighted aspect. Their active and conscious participation contributes to the updating of the Cuban economic model, ensuring the continuity of the tradition of work and effort that characterizes the profession. Their drive is key to maintaining the pace of ongoing works and projects.
In this context, it is worth mentioning the General Contractor Company of Works, which has carried out significant infrastructure projects in housing, urban development, and sectors such as health and education, in addition to providing surveying services. Meanwhile, Construction and Assembly Companies No. 1 and No. 2 have completed architectural projects in different regions of the country.
Over the years, these entities have executed a wide range of constructions, ranging from homes and thermoelectric plants to factories and airports. Their achievements demonstrate not only their versatility but also their important contribution to industrial and social development.
The celebration of Builder's Day in Camagüey, therefore, is also a tribute to the history of sacrifice and perseverance that characterizes this noble profession, reaffirming its commitment to a sustainable and prosperous future for the nation.
