A modern water treatment plant with a capacity of 5,000 liters per hour has been benefiting the hemodialysis service at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital in Camagüey for about a month.
Dr. Jenny Rodríguez Lino, head of the Provincial Nephrology Service and the Regional Transplant Coordinating Center, explained that this allows for the reuse of devices such as dialyzers in patients who tolerate this procedure, a practice approved internationally.
However, the service is among the most affected by supply shortages, as a result of the economic crisis and the intensification of the Yankee blockade.
The health institution currently provides hemodialysis to 170 patients, who receive free care, including transportation.
