Camagüey, March 31.- Amid the current energy crisis affecting the country, the Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) S.A. in the province of Camagüey is committed to maintaining the vitality of its services.
Luel García Lorenzo, director of the mentioned entity, stated that they are working on ensuring the network topology, continuing the more than 100 optimization actions of the territory's main nodes completed during 2025.
Likewise, he specified that in recent months they have promoted the strengthening of the mobile network and have succeeded in operating 31 radio bases with 4G technology using the 1800 and 2100 MHz frequencies.
He also added that currently 3G coverage reaches 85 percent of the population and 2G exceeds 94 percent.
Furthermore, he pointed out that in 2026 they plan to implement a rural solutions program which includes perimeter fencing, a tower, a cellular radio base, a radio link to carry the signal, and a photovoltaic system in remote areas of the municipalities of Najasa and Vertientes, as well as some areas near the beaches and keys.
With the aim of transitioning to renewable energy sources, he noted that the company is also working on installing photovoltaic systems in cabinets in the municipalities of Santa Cruz del Sur, Vertientes, Najasa, and in the city of Camagüey, while gradually securing nodes and radio bases.
He considered the contribution of the eight electric vehicles operating in the province to be vital, as they have helped maintain stability in customer services.
Regarding the legal sector, he stated that the connectivity plan amounts to more than 3,100 links and that around 60 entities managed to increase their bandwidth in 2025.
Currently, he said, Camagüey has more than 87,000 fixed-line users, over 7,000 in the alternative service, 514,000 benefit from the mobile network, and 19,800 have the Nauta Home service, although he acknowledged that these numbers still do not satisfy the demands of the people of Camagüey.
