Camagüey, December 28 - With results that impact services to the population, the year 2025 concludes for the Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA) in the province, stated Luel García Lorenzo, director of the aforementioned entity.
Although demands still exceed what has been achieved, he noted that this jurisdiction has 94,783 fixed telephone services, of which 7,500 are through the alternative fixed telephony modality (TFA), and in more than 30 hard-to-reach communities, communications have been strengthened for the benefit of over 20,000 Camagüey residents.
This year, he pointed out that some technological modifications were made in TFA and commercial decisions were adopted that allowed the incorporation of new features such as the possibility to recharge the service, the implementation of international messaging, and the ability to make collect calls using *99, among others.
Regarding mobile telephony, he explained that during the period 12,000 lines were sold, a figure lower than in previous years due to the shortage of SIM cards in the territory.
He specified that 19,715 Nauta Hogar services are currently active, while network operations have enabled energy backup for 39% of the 173 radio base stations in the province.
Additionally, he added that in 2025, 62 battery banks in this type of infrastructure were replaced, while seven new ones were installed and two more are expected to be added before the end of the current year.
He also noted progress in connectivity access in the popular councils of Camagüey, as out of 100, only 15 remain pending, and 31 new sites already have 4G on the 1800 and 2100 MHz frequencies, which makes it possible to expand the capacity for more people to access this modality, although he emphasized that the complex energy situation facing the country affects the population's ability to perceive these advances positively.
