Three people were injured, but not seriously, after a collision between a CUPET train and a tanker in Camagüey province.

An accident between a passenger train and a tanker truck occurred last night, Thursday, October 9, 2025, in the town of Minas, Camagüey province, reported Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. at kilometer 31,300 of the Nuevitas branch line, when locomotive 38111 of Extra Train 585 collided with a CUPET fuel tanker truck that was blocking the road at a level crossing.

The collision caused the locomotive to derail and come to a semi-overturned position. The train, which was providing local passenger transportation, had departed the Camagüey station at 5:40 p.m. with a five-car train and was headed to the city of Nuevitas, where it was expected to arrive at 8:40 p.m. the same day.

As a result of the impact, three people were injured, although their lives were not in danger: the train driver's assistant, the tanker truck driver, and his companion. All were taken to the Camagüey Provincial Hospital for medical examination.

The incident immediately mobilized a large operation. Executives and employees of the Ferrocarriles Centro Este company arrived at the scene, along with officials from the Party, the Government, the Transport Delegate, the Ministry of the Interior, Civil Defense, SIUM and rescue and salvage teams, as well as CUPET executives and members of other organizations.

The established protocols for these cases were applied, and the passengers were evacuated and transported to their destinations on two buses provided by local authorities. At the same time, a locomotive was dispatched from the Camagüey city station to directly participate in the efforts to restore train traffic, which had been interrupted in the town of Minas.

Both the Ministry of Transport and the Cuban Railway Union maintained constant contact with those directing the operation. Authorities expressed regret for the incident and took the opportunity to once again urge drivers to pay due attention while driving, especially when approaching railroad crossings.
