Havana, Aug 20.- The Electric Union confirmed through its social networks that the cooling process of the affected area was underway to be able to examine the breakdown located very close to the dome, at the top of the boiler of block one, where a crack has increased water consumption in the production process in recent days and forced a reduction in energy delivery.
During a visit to the industry, Joel Queipo Ruíz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in Holguín, evaluated the preparations, resources, and logistical conditions to execute corrective actions and technical improvements in the turbo group, according to a report by journalist Emilio Rodríguez, from the Radio Mayarí station.
During the tour, critical routes and the state of the generator block were reviewed, with special attention to the boiler area where there is a water and steam leak.
Víctor Hugo González Quiala, technical director of the industry, stated that the intervention and welding tasks should require several days, due to thermal requirements and the cooling processes necessary to guarantee safety during the works.
The executive predicted that, depending on the cooling time, they would be approaching the affected area between Thursday evening or in the early hours of next Friday, at which time the magnitude of the breakdown and the repair time can be determined.
Among the tasks planned following the shutdown of the block, improvements to high-pressure heater number one and other critical components stand out, for which the resources for the execution of the works are already at the plant, it was reported.
It was also learned that the work will include nearly 80 actions, including the cleaning of regenerative air heaters and descaling in the boiler area.
The Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant, considered among the most efficient in Cuba, maintains block two out of service, affected by a fire at the start of the startup process following a partial capital maintenance that was expected to incorporate around 220 megawatts into the SEN in the summer of 2022.
