Celebrations for the 65th Anniversary of Indonesia-Cuba Relations Conclude in Bali

Jakarta, Nov. 15 - The commemorative events for the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Cuba successfully concluded today on the well-known island of Bali.

The celebration took place at the Casa del Habano in Bali and coincided with the first year of existence of this franchise specialized in the marketing of Cuban cigars, a symbol that, according to the island's ambassador here, Dagmar González, deeply connects the peoples of both nations.

In her remarks, the Cuban diplomat highlighted that the history of ties between Jakarta and Havana, founded on mutual respect and solidarity, began in an extraordinary way. She recalled that it was the meetings of legendary figures such as Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Commander Ernesto Che Guevara that marked the beginning of this relationship.

Over the 65 years, she said, "we have shared fundamental values such as dignity, self-determination, sovereignty, solidarity, and the defense of the Global South, and these same principles have guided our cooperation in international forums."

The ambassador also referred to bilateral cooperation, strengthened in the sports sector with the training of Indonesian athletes in volleyball and boxing, which is expected to expand into education and health sectors, as well as economic, commercial, and investment ties that encompass areas such as tourism and biotechnology.

The commemorative events for the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Indonesia began on January 22 here and concluded at the Casa del Habano in Bali, this time with the presence of Gonzalo Álvarez, the commercial director of Pacific Cigar.
