Call from the Commission on International Relations of the National Assembly of People's Power
The members of the Commission on International Relations of the National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba call upon the citizens of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as those of the United States, to act promptly and decisively to preserve our region as a Zone of Peace, as approved and proclaimed by the heads of State and Government at the CELAC Summit held in Havana in January 2014.
We support the message from the President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO), denouncing the disproportionate and aggressive deployment of naval and air forces, including a nuclear submarine, and the large number of U.S. personnel present in the Caribbean Sea.
We have the duty and the right to defend the peace and lives of our peoples. Dozens of people have already died in attacks carried out by United States forces against vessels in the area, acts that can be classified as extrajudicial executions and constitute a blatant violation of International Law.
Let us raise the voices of legislators from our region and the world to stop the threats and the criminal intentions of the current administration of the White House which, under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking, hides the true purpose of provoking the overthrow of the constitutional government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and seizing that country’s valuable natural resources.
The militarization of the Caribbean for several weeks now constitutes a crude act of interference by the United States government. Its implementation expresses the philosophy of imperial domination based on the Monroe Doctrine, which spans more than two centuries and underpins its interventionist efforts in the Americas.
The threats include intentions to cross the borders of sovereign states and use the territory of third countries. The most recent aggressive act by Washington was the arbitrary and immoral decision to close Venezuelan airspace. In this regard, we support the timely condemnation by the Cuban Foreign Minister, who described this as a very serious threat and an escalation in the military aggression and psychological warfare against the Venezuelan people and government.
On behalf of our peoples, we are committed and obligated to act urgently and convey a message of peace to U.S. public opinion to prevent the spilling of Latin American, Caribbean, and also U.S. citizens’ blood.
Let us work swiftly to multiply demands for peaceful coexistence in all international parliamentary forums, in the media, and among every man and woman in the world who understands the necessity of contributing all possible efforts and actions to the preservation of peace, life, and security for our peoples.
Let us say No to war!
