Havana, December 30th – The 2025 National Music Prize was unanimously awarded on Monday morning at the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) to composer, poet, guitarist, and singer Amaury Pérez Vidal, one of the most iconic figures of Cuban song and founder of the Nueva Trova Movement.
A jury chaired by Maestro Digna Guerra, and also composed of José María Vitier, Marta Bonet, César López, and Beatriz Corona, highlighted the author of "Acuérdate de abril" and "Hacerte venir" as one of the most important Cuban composers of the second half of the 20th century; in addition to being an established performer, record producer, writer, screenwriter, director, and host of radio, shows, and television.
His songs have close ties to jazz and pop, others mixed with rock music, and his most recent creative line is based on the style of the romantic song, Vitier commented while explaining some of Pérez Vidal's contributions.
Indira Fajardo, president of the ICM, made the award official along with the jury and the gathered press, through a phone call to the honoree, who adds to his renowned artistic career the most significant accolade granted by the Ministry of Culture in the field of music through the institution.
Amaury was deeply moved and confessed that his heart was beating very fast as he thanked everyone for the high recognition.
