January 2026.- Maps do not always reveal the true greatness of a place. Sometimes, it is the memory, the history, and the voice of its people that more accurately outline the contours of a city. Guáimaro is one of those places that are not discovered in a hurry: they are felt, breathed, lived.

There, where the Central Highway announces the proximity of a town that jealously guards its identity, a space opens that invites you to pause. The easternmost territory of Camagüey not only welcomes travelers with hospitality but also envelops them with the magic of its past and the strength of its present. It is land that inspires verses, songs, and shared dreams.

In this town, the cradle of the first Constitution of the Republic of Cuba in arms, tradition intertwines with architecture that defies time. The Municipal Museum, with its sturdy columns and generous portal, becomes a refuge of memories and emotions. It knows no age or creed: it embraces all who arrive and offers them a journey through the legends that dignify the region.

Its carefully maintained rooms are visited by curious pioneers, elders who recall danzones and anecdotes, young people seeking to learn, and adults surprised by the serenity of the place. The song of the sparrows accompanies every step, reminding that nature is part of Guáimaro’s identity.

At noon, when the sun stands at its highest point, the shade of the monumental ceiba tree offers rest. That tree, witness to cyclones and droughts, stands upright, proud to have been a source of relief in past times, such as when Salvador Cisneros Betancourt drank water from the large jar.

Guáimaro is silence that keeps secrets, birds' songs that replace urban noise, resistance that rises in the face of adversity.

In the Municipal Museum flourishes the memory of Ana Betancourt de Mora, a woman ahead of her time who proclaimed women’s rights, and the rebellious spirit of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Father of the Homeland, Ignacio Agramonte, "El Mayor," and many others who in April of 1869 gave life to the Guáimaro Assembly, an inspiration for José Martí and for entire generations.

The cultural venue inspiring this page is more than a building; it is considered a symbol, a shared pride, a space where current dreams merge with the traces of the past. Declared a National Monument in 1979, it is and will forever remain a beacon of identity and patriotism.
