Low temperatures trigger alerts in Mexico City

Mexico City, Feb. 3 - The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of this capital has activated Orange and Yellow alerts due to the low temperatures forecasted for today in several areas of Mexico City.

A statement indicates that the Orange alert will cover the boroughs of Milpa Alta and Tlalpan, where temperatures are expected to range from one to three degrees Celsius between 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. local time.

The Yellow alert, meanwhile, will apply to Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Tláhuac, and Xochimilco, where experts expect temperatures between four and six degrees during the same time period.

In light of this situation, authorities recommended that the population avoid exposure to sudden temperature changes, wear at least three layers of clothing, preferably cotton or wool, and use cream to protect and moisturize the skin against the cold.

They also urged people to drink plenty of water and consume fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins A and C, as well as to wash their hands frequently or use antibacterial gel, and in case of any discomfort, to visit the nearest health center.
