279 Mexicans evacuated from the Middle East, reports Sheinbaum

Mexico City, March 5 - The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced today that 279 fellow nationals were evacuated from the Middle East, which is engulfed in a regional conflict triggered by the attacks of the United States and Israel against Iran.

A total of “279 Mexican people have been evacuated from Israel, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Qatar,” stated the head of the Executive from the National Palace during her usual meeting with the media.

According to her, the fellow nationals mostly departed by land “to Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey, countries that have open airspace.”

Through a message on the social network X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated yesterday that “each situation is carefully analyzed to ensure that the established evacuation corridors operate safely, as well as other possible alternatives.”

She mentioned that the country’s representations in the Middle East remain on alert and in constant contact with fellow nationals, and reaffirmed that there were no Mexicans affected physically up to that moment.

The Foreign Ministry recognized the important work carried out by diplomats deployed in high-complexity areas and emphasized that “their professionalism and dedication to service have been decisive in the assistance and protection tasks they perform.”

The United States and Israel launched a coordinated offensive against Iranian territory on Saturday.

Tehran authorities described the action as a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and international law.

In response, forces of that nation bombarded Israel and the main U.S. bases located in countries of the Persian Gulf.

The aggression occurred hours before a deal between the United States and Iran was finalized, which, according to Oman's Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, was “within reach.”
