Guáimaro, January 1st – A mark that has shaped the identity and traditions of the Cuban people, the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959, still stands today as a milestone and victory of ideas, of the will of a people against injustice and years of oppression.
The event stirred consciences, opened paths, gave rise to a creative spirit, and established schools, hospitals, scientific, cultural, and sports institutions for the humblest; it gave land to those who worked it; it valued the best human virtues and showed the world the strength of an archipelago of worthy men and women.
Sixty-seven Januaries since that day, the project of all remains revolutionary, deeply humanist, Martian (inspired by José Martí) and Fidelist; as part of its essence, it calls for transformation without renouncing the principles that guarantee social justice in the face of constant threats and imperial selfishness.
The challenges of the present drive new battles, the search for homegrown solutions, building for the common good, growing anchored in the lessons of a history that proves victory is possible when unity, work, effort, and firm convictions go hand in hand.
