Health specialists in Guaimaro are leading exchanges at educational centers to educate families about the importance of the national vaccination campaign for nine-year-old girls against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
The bivalent Cecolin vaccine candidate, designed to protect against serotypes 16 and 18 of the virus responsible for approximately seven out of 10 cases of cervical cancer worldwide, will be administered from October 27 to January 27.
Vaccination centers in the region will be set up at the Rafael Morales and Joaquín de Agüero elementary schools in the city center, and at the 10 de Abril elementary school in Pueblo Nuevo. Vaccination centers will also be available in the Martí and Cascorro districts.
According to the doctors, the dose will be 0.5 ml, administered intramuscularly. They emphasize that the vaccine is more effective if administered prior to exposure to the pathogen, which is why it is especially recommended before the onset of sexual activity.
Protecting girls against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is part of the efforts of the Cuban State, and especially the Ministry of Public Health, to ensure the care and full development of the new generations.
