Alcoholism: A Shadow That Wounds Families

Alcoholism: A Shadow That Wounds Families

Dec, 2025.- Alcoholism is not simply a habit; it is an addiction that dominates and enslaves those who drink uncontrollably, turning consumption into dependence. Over time, it erodes both physical and mental health, leaving deep marks on people’s lives.

Excessive alcohol consumption, also known as the "gateway drug," destroys the body, deals a heavy blow to family finances, and creates cracks in the closest relationships: spouses, children, siblings. Filial love weakens, friendships break apart, and community coexistence becomes difficult, marked by conflicts and distrust.

In Guáimaro, the Celia Sánchez Manduley Mental Health Center ensures specialized care for those seeking to free themselves from this addiction. There, a highly professional team welcomes patients with commitment and sensitivity as they decide to take the step toward recovery.

Currently, treatment groups have expanded, reflecting the characteristics of the Guáimaro region, primarily livestock-based and with few healthy recreational options, especially on weekends. This reality increases the population's vulnerability to alcohol consumption. (Photo taken from Habana Radio)
