Building a digital, inclusive and sovereign future

Cybersociety 2025, an event organized by the Cuban Computer Scientists Union, has become a platform that has shaped the concept and way of thinking about the country's Digital Transformation.

In its fourth edition—which takes place from this Monday until September 9 at the Hotel Nacional—the event seeks to consolidate projects, alliances, and better perspectives on the Sustainable Digital Future.

During the inauguration, which was attended by Mayra Arevich, Minister of Communications, UIC President Omar Correa stated that Cibersociedad has sought the most genuine scientific thought, the most innovative practical thinking, and the most inclusive, from a gender perspective and the integration of all citizens, in the great task of computerization, which is today the implementation of the Digital Transformation Agenda in Cuba.

The scientific program for the event will address topics related to transformation and governance, artificial intelligence, the 2030 Agenda, smart city experiences, technological mipymes as a driver of the digital economy, the Libre Office Congress, Industry 4.0, citizen participation and digital transparency, and cybersecurity, among others.

At the inaugural conference, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Communications (MINCOM), Ailyn Febles, highlighted the leadership of digital transformation with a sustainable impact.

In Cuba, she noted that one of the objectives is to invest in the energy efficiency of its data centers and devices, using renewable energy sources and adopting more efficient technologies; in addition to achieving technological products with a focus on durability, repairability, and ease of upgrade, thus reducing planned obsolescence.

This meant that the Cuban Cloud, or cloud computing, is a clean technology that eliminates the use of physical storage devices, reducing carbon emissions into the environment by 84%.

She added that in the digital economy, electronic device recycling programs are being implemented and circular economy models are being promoted to extend the lifespan of products.

She noted that, in the case of digital government, the use of AI leads to savings in the use of devices, resources, and materials. Furthermore, this technology's ability to learn from interaction also increases productivity levels.

Cybersociety 2025 will feature representatives from international organizations such as UNESCO, as well as delegations from countries such as Russia, Brazil, Spain, Equatorial Guinea, France, Mexico, Austria, and Vietnam.
