Cuban intellectuals issue declaration in defense of sovereignty, peace and social justice

The undersigned, National Awards in Social Sciences and National Awards in History of the Republic of Cuba, aware of the ethical responsibility that our intellectual work entails and our commitment to the nation, make the following declaration public:

First and foremost, we reaffirm our loyalty to the principles of independence, sovereignty, and social justice that have guided the Cuban revolutionary process from its very beginning. The history of Cuba, from the mambí uprising to today, has been marked by a persistent struggle against all forms of external domination, and that legacy continues to be the foundation of our thinking and our action.

We defend the inalienable right of the Cuban people to decide their destiny without foreign interference. The economic blockade and pressures of all kinds constitute forms of aggression that directly affect the daily life of our population and hinder the full development of the country.

We denounce imperialism as a threat to peace, stability, and self-determination of nations. The rise of neofascism throughout the world, with the abject leadership of the fanatics of the brutal and turbulent North, puts the very existence of our species at risk. Cuba is a victim today of those dark forces that we must reject.

"We denounce imperialism as a threat to peace, stability, and self-determination of nations."

We claim the humanist and emancipatory vocation of the Cuban social project, whose essential purpose has been and continues to be the dignification of human beings, the expansion of social rights, and the construction of a more equitable society.

We acknowledge the challenges, tensions, and contradictions inherent in any living historical endeavor, but we maintain that the solution to all our problems belongs exclusively to the Cuban people, through dialogue, participation, and the continuous improvement of its institutions, respecting the current constitutional order and our tradition of resistance.

We warn about the dangers of discourses that, under the appearance of academic analysis or "civic" concerns, may contribute to legitimizing destabilization agendas or reproducing narratives that serve interests foreign to the nation. History teaches that interference only leads to violence, suffering, and loss of sovereignty.

We advocate for peace as the guiding principle of national and international coexistence. Cuba needs, today more than ever, spaces for understanding, respect, and collective construction, far from sterile confrontation and calls for foreign interventions. Our pacifist zeal does not deny this country's right to defend itself from aggression, if necessary, although we hope such a scenario never materializes.

"We advocate for peace as the guiding principle of national and international coexistence."

We reiterate our confidence in the Cuban people's capacity to face its challenges with intelligence, political culture, and a sense of justice. We call upon the academic community and citizens in general to defend historical truth, national independence, and the values of solidarity that have characterized our nation.

We sign this declaration in defense of Cuba, of its right to exist without tutelage and without fences or threats, and of a future built in peace, with social justice and full sovereignty.
