San Salvador, Apr. 28 — The DoctorSV telemedicine program currently handles around 20 thousand daily calls in El Salvador after the launch of Phase II aimed at patients with chronic diseases, indicated the application's director, Manuel Bello.
Bello stated that previously the calls were between 16 thousand and 17 thousand, but once Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele disclosed that DoctorSV was in Phase II, consultation requests rose to 20 thousand per day.
Given the increase in consultation requests, Bello reported that the digital platform has a capacity of 30 thousand requests, but projects a greater reach of the medical application regarding patients with chronic diseases and other programs.
Referring to Phase II of DoctorSV, he noted that it is aimed at people diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension, obesity, or kidney disease, and their family members who could also be at risk of suffering from them.
DoctorSV was officially launched in November 2025 and already exceeds 2.3 million consultations, with 1.2 million users according to official statistics.
In February, the Finance and Special Budget Committee of the Legislative Assembly approved a favorable opinion for the ratification of a loan from the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) for about 75 million dollars intended to increase daily calls to the digital platform, through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Together with the installation of 400 medication dispensing kiosks and the extension of contracts with private pharmacy and laboratory services.
DoctorSV offers free digital medical attention 24 hours a day, through video calls with doctors and AI tools that guide diagnosis and support professionals in symptom evaluation.
However, there are social sectors that accuse the government of attempting to privatize health care.
