Last Day of Campaign in Ecuador for Popular Consultation and Referendum

Quito, Nov 13.- Political and social organizations in Ecuador will have today as the last day to conduct campaign activities ahead of the popular consultation and referendum promoted by President Daniel Noboa for this Sunday.

On that day, Ecuadorians will need to decide whether to call for a Constituent Assembly to draft a new Constitution, on the establishment of foreign military bases, the reduction in the number of assembly members, and the elimination of public funding for political parties.

On Thursday, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) will march through the streets of the capital with their “Chaski for No” campaign.

This march, for rights and life, has already passed through several provinces of the country and will now advance with traditional ceremonies and cultural presentations from the south of Quito to the north of the city in rejection of the consultative process.

“They have deceived us too much. We are going to the polls, and we will say No to that sneaky, deceitful popular consultation,” stated Marlon Vargas, president of Conaie.

Other social groups will also carry out actions at different points across the country to promote voting against President Noboa's proposals, arguing that they respond to neoliberal policies that threaten hard-won rights and put national sovereignty at risk.

Meanwhile, the ruling party, Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN), is promoting a vote in favor of the four questions that will appear on the ballot on November 16 with caravans and campaign closing events in various provinces of the country.

More than 13 million Ecuadorians, including over 400,000 residents abroad, are called to the polls this Sunday to vote Yes or No on the four questions proposed by President Noboa.

Election silence will begin on Friday, November 14, two days before the day that will define the country's future.

The Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity-Ecuador sent a letter to electoral observation missions to warn about possible manipulations of the results of the process.
