Camagüey Meteorological Center will receive prestigious recognition

Camagüey.- The Cuban Animal Production Association (Acpa) awarded the Camagüey Meteorological Center the Doctor Guillermo Leiva Prize for Productive Excellence, which will be officially delivered, in its four categories, during the International Agricultural Fair (Fiagrop) 2026, scheduled for next July.

This recognition is part of the activities celebrating Veterinary Day, and in the case of the agramontina meteorological institution, it was obtained in the category of Best Collective in Teaching and Research, based on its results over the last 20 to 25 years and participation in research projects.

The Provincial Meteorological Center (CMP) of Camagüey has developed research on danger, vulnerability and risk aimed at confronting and adapting to climate change during this period, with positive results in studies on the effects of flooding from intense rains, coastal flooding and strong winds.

These inquiries cover the entire territory and constitute an important reference for confronting climate change in the territory, highlighted Dainelaine Navarro Silva, technical deputy director of the CMP.

Similarly, international projects that have strengthened the province of Camagüey stand out in its trajectory, in early warning and surveillance systems, including some linked to the agricultural sector and coordinated through Non-Governmental Organizations.

Regarding teaching, she added, they held two editions of the face-to-face course for workers in the Meteorology degree, which has the peculiarity of being taught only in Havana and Camagüey.

They also celebrated several editions of the Medium Technician Course in Meteorology, which was attended mainly by personnel from meteorological stations, with the aim of providing them with better preparation, added Navarro Silva.
