Camagüey.- The call for the Carlos Bastidas Provincial Journalism Contest, which is held every year in March during the Press Week, according to the established regulations, includes five categories: print media, radio, television, hypermedia, and photojournalism.
Journalism students with published work in the province’s media outlets may participate on an equal footing.
The deadline for submitting entries is Friday, February 27, 2026. The Jury’s work, financially supported by Resolution No. 27/24, will take place from Tuesday, March 3 to Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The Jury is composed of five professionals of recognized prestige, one from each category’s media. The selection will be made once the call is closed to avoid having to replace a member who participates with entries in the contest or has a relative competing. Therefore, the Juries will be formed on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Each participant may submit up to five entries per category. The entries must be delivered to the UPEC office with ALL the author’s personal information:
– Full name
– Identity card number
– UPEC membership card number
– Title of the work
– Date of publication (in all cases from January to December 2025)
– For Radio and TV, the recording on a USB drive can be copied at the UPEC office or sent by email if the file size allows to:
– For print media, one copy of the publication or a PDF.
– For hypermedia journalism, a copy of the publication on a storage device to be downloaded on a PC or the link to the site where it is hosted.
– For photojournalism, photographers and cameramen should provide the link where it is published, a copy of the newspaper, or a TV video.
Exceptionally, this year the contest includes a special prize. Under equal conditions and for a single award, all UPEC members may participate with material reflecting the life and work of the Commander in Chief and his legacy in Camagüey. The journalistic material must have been published during 2025 and will be a tribute to Fidel Castro on the year of his Centennial.
It should be noted that each file must contain all the above-mentioned elements to be accepted and must comply with the publication date and the number of materials per category. Otherwise, it is subject to elimination from the competition.
The Jury’s decision and the awards ceremony will take place on a date to be determined in March 2026.
