Cuba expresses solidarity with Mexico following the train accident.

Havana, Dec. 29 - The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, expressed his heartfelt condolences this Sunday to the people and Government of Mexico for the derailment of an interoceanic train in the southern part of the country, which left at least 13 dead and 98 injured.

The president lamented the accident on his account on the social network X and reiterated "all our solidarity" with the Mexican people.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also conveyed Cuba's condolences and support for the victims and the injured in the accident that occurred on the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

According to the Mexican Navy Secretariat, the incident took place on line Z of the railroad in the state of Oaxaca, where 241 passengers and nine crew members were traveling on two locomotives and four wagons.

Of the total affected, 36 injured remain under hospital care, while 139 people have already been reported as out of danger.

The institution responsible for the railway operation detailed that it deployed 360 naval personnel, 20 vehicles, four ground ambulances, three aerial ambulances, and a tactical drone for rescue and search operations.

It also expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to cooperate with the competent authorities to clarify the causes of the accident.
