Havana, April 21.- The Latin American Gallery of Casa de las Américas will host today the inauguration of the exhibition "Fidel's Century," one of the proposals making up the program for the 66th edition of the Literary Prize established by the Havana cultural institution.
The exhibition features around 60 pieces, including photography, humorous drawings, engravings, and paintings, all belonging to the Haydee Santamaría Art of Our America Collection, except for some works belonging to designer Pepe Menéndez, visual artist and humorist Ares, and photographer Humberto Mayol.
The public will also find works by photographers closely linked to the life and work of Fidel, such as Raúl Corrales and Alberto Korda, Silvia Llanes, director of the institution's Plastic Arts Department, told Prensa Latina in an exclusive interview.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until December, in homage to the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and his connection to Casa de las Américas and the Literary Prize.
Archival documents enrich this visual experience, which seeks to connect with the viewer from within the installation, where "Fidel: Posters in Revolution" is also exhibited.
This part of the exhibition addresses crucial moments in the history of the Cuban Revolution, using Fidel's figure and thought as a key element of the narrative, the specialist added.
In addition to the inauguration of the "Fidel's Century" exhibition, the competition features the panel "Thinking and 'Experimenting' in Today's World" in the Manuel Galich Room, with Argentine Paula Klachko and Cuban Marlene Vázquez, director of the Center for Martí Studies.
The 66th edition of the Casa de las Américas Literary Prize runs until the 24th and includes various activities, with the main highlight being the awards ceremony in the genres of Testimonial Literature, Historical-Social Essay, and Theater.
