Guáimaro, Aug 4.- The dumping and burning of solid waste in urban areas of Guáimaro triggers alarms due to potential impacts on the environment and human health.
The accumulation of garbage over several days highlights a reality that demands effective solutions in the face of fuel shortages for the systematic operation of sanitation transport, as well as the absence of cart drivers who previously undertook this task.
Proper waste management, while far from being an enjoyable activity, is a permanent necessity given the risks posed by the introduction of substances whose effects can be severe and long-lasting.
In this regard, the burning of makeshift landfills near residential areas and other facilities constitutes a punishable offense due to the emission of harmful gases.
In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in the number of diseases linked to environmental degradation, and millions of people worldwide suffer the consequences.
Even though natural pollution exists, the most frequent damages result from human activity and, depending on where it occurs, can affect the air or atmosphere, water, soil, flora, and fauna.
Not only does littering in inappropriate places increase the danger; the dissemination of sounds exceeding admissible volume levels also contributes, as do actions such as the reckless use of materials that cause visual, thermal, or radioactive pollution.
While the government is tasked with enforcing legislation for environmental protection, there must also be individual and collective responsibility, rooted in an understanding of duty and the awareness that caring for the environment is everyone's task.
